I haven't decided if that was good or bad.
They ended up going down the drain.
And here's a little something I happened across in the Carmes neighborhood of Toulouse.
If you can't see it very well, it says ring once for the 1st floor, twice for the second, and three times for the third. It reminded me of my mom growing up in the country, where several families shared the same phone line and the operator had a similar method to let people know who the call was for.
