Since my last post

Met up with some friends for dinner; felt slightly disconnected and didn't know what to think of their wedding gift (a charm bracelet...B felt a little left out...)

Drove with my parents to San Luis Obispo and saw family my dad was hoping to avoid.

Drove past the spot where James Dean died and took a picture

Drove into the countryside north of Madera and west of Oakhurst to where my aunt, uncle, and grandmother live. Here's an idea of where they live: 5 miles of dirt road, and probably 12 before you get cell phone coverage (and it's roaming at that) and a good half hour before you see the first gas station.

Saw lots and lots of family and had a great time catching up with them. Ate tons of good Thanksgiving food and had a jolly old time

Had more quality time with family

Pet the dog before he went and rolled in fresh cow pies (I'm serious: he's a real country dog!)

Walked around my aunt and uncle's property with B (avoiding the cow pies) enjoying the silence and beauty of the scenery

Drove 7 hours back down to San Diego, stopping in San Dimas and LaVerne to take a picture of the house my parents bought when they were 25 and then touring their college in LaVerne ("My room was the third one on the left...Oh, this was Grandma's dorm when she was here!")

Finally returned, with laundry and lots of other things to catch up on.

On the agenda this week: shopping, seeing my other Grandma, hanging out with friends again, glossing over lots of weirdness between my parents, and probably more shopping (our big dilemma is what to do with the $$ we've received from family for our wedding: spend here in the States? Put it in my bank account for our next trip to the States for shopping then? Withdraw it in France (losing a certain percentage of course) and spend it/save it there?)

Some words/things B has learned this week: jack-and-jill bathroom, tatas (as in boobs), haystack, Japanese internment camps during WWII, Rose Bowl game and parade
